Hawaii Island (Big Island), Hawaii - Mauna Kea "White Mountain" volcano is the tallest mountain in the world, from ocean floor to summit, 33,000 feet. (Mt. Everest is the highest mountain at sea level at 29,029 feet). Mauna Kea summit, at nearly 14,000 feet, houses the International Observatories, including the NASA Infrared, Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, Gemini Telescope and W.M. Keck twin Observatories.
